Our first club meeting of the year on February 1 was a success! We had a great deal of information about the upcoming year for our members. For those of you who couldn’t attend, I’ll bring you up to speed.
As you may have noticed, we are sending weekly email newsletters out and hopefully everyone is receiving it. If you aren't receiving it, please let us know.
There is a new type of Relay this year at the Firebird Triathlon in Maricopa on March 7. It’s the Firebird Team Challenge. Each member of a 3-man team will do a mini triathlon (250 meter swim, 4 mile bike and 1 mile run) in a relay fashion. I think it is going to be SUPER FUN. In addition to the Team Challenge, there will be a Sprint and a Super Sprint for individual entries. TTC is going to take all club members who enter these events and put their name in a hat and 4 lucky teams and/or members will get their entry fee refunded to them. If you sign up for the Sprint or the Super Sprint and your name is pulled you will receive $15.00 off your entry fee. There is a ton of information about the event at: tucsonracing.com/FBTinf.htm
FREE, FREE, FREE!
How often in an athletic competition do you get to hear those words applied to an entry fee? TTC and Tucson Tri Girls have done it! We have put together two events that are totally free!
The first one will be hosted by TTC on March 14 on the Rillito River Path. It's a 10k chalk-line run. This race is open to anyone in the community, not just TTC or TTG. The race will start and end at the Children’s Memorial Park. Immediately following the race will be some giveaways from our sponsors and a potluck. This is a great time to come out and meet some of your fellow club members AS WELL AS meet other athletes in the community who do not belong to TTC.
The second event will be a Duathlon on April 10. This race will be in Gladden Farms in Marana. This race is a joint effort with the Tucson Tri Girls. The race will consist of a 2 mile run 15.5 mile bike and a 2 mile run. Please mark the date on your calendars and we will provide more information in the coming weeks. Remember, it's free!
It’s time to order your Award-Winning Gear. The Tucson Triathlon Club won the Best Looking Club Gear award in 2008. We will be using Louis Garneau for the triathlon kits and cycling jerseys. We will place an order by the end of February in hopes to have the gear in time for the Tempe International race. If you are interested in ordering gear, please get down to Trisports as soon as possible to try on some LG to determine your size. Mark StarkPresident Tucson Triathlon Club |
